After that war, he held a variety of senior staff posts, including Army Ground Forces Chief 0f Staff, assistant Chief of Staff for operations and deputy Chief of Staff for plans. His final post, from October 1953 to April 1955, was as the army's number-2 soldier, Army Vice Chief of Staff.
His medals included two Distinguished Service Medals, the Silver Star, the Legion of Merit and the Purple Heart.
After retiring from active duty, settled in Alexandria, Virginia. From 1955 to 1958, he was special assistant to the board chairman of American Car & Foundry Industries. He then served for a time as board chairman of the Advanced Growth Capital Corp before retiring a second time in the 1960s.
He also had been active in charitable work, serving in the 1950s as chairman of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society Washington, DC area chapter's Hope Chest Drive and as chairman of the Cancer Crusade of the Fairfax-Falls Church unit of the American Cancer Society. Also in the 1950s, he was elected president of the Army & Navy Club and grand paramount Carabao of the Military Order of the Carabao.
General Bolte received a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering at what is now the Illinois Institute of Technology in his native Chicago in 1917. Later that year, he went on active duty as an infantry officer. Between the wars, he served in China and Germany, and graduated from the Infantry School at Fort Benning, Georgia, Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, and the Army War College. 关于第3位赠送者奥西斯的一封信
                                                                  HEADQUARTERS
                                           INFANTRY REPLACEMENT TRAINING CENTER
                                                                 Camp Blanding, Florida

Colonel I. M. Oseth
Infantry Board
Fort Benning, Georgia

Dear Oseth:

While I have thought about you a good many times, the immediate cause of my writing you is the receipt of a letter from Wells-Wells, in which they hand me a small package of tripe, including the statement "You are an important factor in the development of the jeep", etc.

I am about to tell them that my part was completely unimportant, inasmuch as I was Executive, as you well remember, during the time that it came up and that you actually were the one doing all the heavy work and pushing.  Naturally I was most interested but I don't intend to attach myself to this story by tracing my interest and activities in the development of motor transportation.  I hope that you are not being modest in your account of your part because you should be given more credit than any of the others he mentioned.  If you remember, and I'm sure you do, plenty of them jumped on the bandwagon after the Chief of Infantry's Office (you in great part) and had it adopted as a project and put into production.

I say this because the letter, which I think I will inclose after all, give several people a chance to make unjust claims as to their part.  It gives me a bit of pain to have Wells-Wells say "beginning back at the time you conceived the idea of developing a motor vehicle", etc.  I suspect that this is stated in their letters to others as well.

Please return the letter, to which I will then reply.

As you may know I arrived here four weeks ago today and have been engaged in trying to get this new IRTC off to a flying start.  I which I could see you and visit but we both are busy at present.  However, a chance may come later of my getting to Benning on some pretext or other.

Give my best to your wife and best wished to you as ever.

                                                                                    Sincerely yours,

                                                                                     E.W. FALES
                                                                                    Brigadier General, U.S. Army.

一篇关于B_29轰炸机的回忆录里提到了第14位赠送者 A.W. Kissner

B-29A "The Spearhead" Serial Number 44-69975
Pilot 1st Lt. Edward T. Kelby
Aircraft History
Built at the Boeing Wichita Factory. Departed overseas on May 3, 1945. Flew its first combat mision on May 18th.
Dave L. Rogan, AC, 1st Squadron (via 9th BG history) recalls:
"On May 28, 1945, General A.W. Kissner, Chief of Staff, 21st Bomber Command, wrote to General Keller Rockey, Fifth Marine Division, that as a token of respect and appreciation of the great contribution made by the Fifth Marine Division in the taking of Iwo Jima; they desired to name a new B-29 for the Fifth Marine Division in the taking of Iwo Jima, and to
inscribe the Division Insignia on the plane. Our crew was selected for this honor and crew 11A was proud to have a new ship named “The Spearhead”. The brass of the Fifth Marine Division and the 9th BG got together and had a dedication ceremony on Tinian, August 17, 1945. About 100 Marines including their band took part. “The Spearhead” also took part in the ceremony. All in all, it was fun, and since our crew led many missions, “The Spearhead” was an appropriate name. Its two waist gunners were twins (Burton and Langdon Dyer) and as far as I know, were the only twins to fly combat missions together."The 5th Marines logo was painted on the right side of the nose, and the left side with a painting of the second flag raising, photographed by Joe Rosenthal. Its last combat mission was September 1, for total of 25 combat missions and one abort during the war. It returned to the states on May 8, 1946. On May 23 it was scrapped at Aberdeen.
